ABOUT

Hi! I’m Fatumo Osman

Sawir Borama 2.jpg

I’m a Registered Nurse, Associate Professor, and PCI Certified Parent Coach®, deeply passionate about helping families navigate the complex world of parenting. My work centres on strengthening the bonds between parents and children—particularly in communities where cultural nuances are often overlooked. By combining years of academic research with hands-on experience, I empower parents to approach modern parenting with confidence, compassion, and cultural sensitivity. You can learn more about my parent and couples coaching on this website.

Alongside my academic and coaching work, I actively support services that assist migrant families through lectures and workshops focused on culturally tailored interventions. In June 2025, my method Ladnaan received the Attractive Innovation Project Award at Uppsala Innovation, Uppsala University. Developed over more than a decade of research, Ladnaan is a structured, ready-to-use package designed for professionals—such as those in social services—who work with families most in need of support, including newly arrived parents and those with migration experiences.

Throughout my career, I’ve been recognised for my contributions to the fields of parenting, family support, and maternal health. I’ve published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and books, and received multiple research grants to advance this work. My research explores parenting interventions, maternal well-being, and mental health across diverse global contexts, with a particular focus on refugee and immigrant populations.

In my academic work, I’m deeply committed to mentoring and coaching junior researchers, helping them build the confidence, skills, and knowledge needed to excel in their careers. I guide both emerging and experienced researchers across high- and low-resource settings, ensuring they’re equipped to address current and future global health challenges. I also lead workshops on effective mentorship and peer support, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth within academia.

Outside of work, I’m a wife and proud mother of three, deeply engaged in civil society. I love travelling and cherish spending quality time with my family and friends. My calm demeanour, warmth, compassion, and love of challenges define me both personally and professionally.

TESTIMONIALS

I’ve had an incredible experience being coached by Dr. Fatumo Osman. Right from the start, I was impressed by her considerate yet personalised coaching approach. When I began, I was under immense pressure at work and felt inadequate as a parent pursuing a demanding profession in a complex setting. The coach's guidance significantly altered my feelings of insufficiency and helped me overcome my challenges. Her coaching style skilfully combined empathy, structure, and encouragement, which has profoundly impacted my personal and professional life.

Dr. Fatumo took the time to understand my personal goals, strengths, and challenges, and her advice was both insightful and practical. She helped me establish clear, actionable steps to achieve my goals as a working mother. Her ability to hold me accountable in a supportive manner on a weekly basis, fostering motivation and self-assurance, was particularly noteworthy.

One of my biggest takeaways from our coaching was how to enhance my time management and prioritise tasks in alignment with my values and long-term vision while remaining flexible and adaptable. She also skilfully reminded me of my small wins each week and the importance of stopping and celebrating them. She encouraged me to focus on my strengths rather than areas for improvement, which fostered a positive perspective on my parenting abilities. By emphasising the numerous positive aspects of my mothering that I often overlook, she boosted my self-esteem and reinforced the notion that I was indeed doing my utmost with the resources at my disposal.

For those seeking a professional who not only comprehends your current parenting situation, encourages growth, challenges your limitations, and acknowledges your achievements, I strongly recommend Dr Fatumo Osman. Her expertise is unparalleled in this regard! (Dr. Amal, Sweden)

"I really enjoyed working with Fatumo. She was very patient, kind and accepting of me and my style of processing my challenges. Fatumo asked gente but very thought provoking questions that helped me to see where I could adjust my own thinking and approach to my children and family. Fatumo was wonderful at keeping me focused on my family vision and on how I could recognise when it was coming into reality. After our coaching I feel equipped with strategies and internal resources. It was so comforting to work with Fatumo. I will miss our sessions together." (Tracy Allen, USA)
